105: Family Dynamics, Conditioning, Expectations & Getting Your Needs Met in Relationships with Amberlee Rose

In today's conversation Amberlee and I explore how our childhood experiences and relationships with our original caregivers can impact our current relationships and ways of relating.

There is often deeply ingrained conditioning that many of us hold around what it means to be a man, a woman, a mother, and other labels we put on ourselves or others put on us.

Often we see the man as the savior, the breadwinner or provider, the handyman, and there are roles and responsibilities that are put on the man. There's often the saying that goes "Be a man" or "Man up" which puts men into a box and suppresses different parts of them, and can also be incredibly emasculating, causing them to feel less than or not good enough if they don't meet the expectations of what it means to be a man.

For women, often there is the conditioning around being the homemaker, people pleasing, self-sacrificing, over-giving, putting everyone else first, her needs come last or not at all, she's only to speak when spoken to, be the good girl, the nice girl, stay inside the lines. There are also roles and responsibilities, like cooking and cleaning, meeting the man's sexual needs.

And this all comes not only from what was mirrored to us in childhood from our caregivers, but society as well.

We can become incredibly lost and confused and wonder who am I. It significantly impacts our relationships and you may find yourself unhappy or unsatisfied in your relationship, or a lot of conflict arising.

In this conversation we explore all of this and so much more with the intention to support you in creating new ways of relating, connecting and being in harmony in your relationship. Discovering what works for you, what kind of relationship you desire and how to create that. How to get your needs met and not necessarily by your partner but by you.

A truly powerful conversation, inspired by our own personal journeys.

We would LOVE to hear your feedback, what resonates, and any questions you have or areas you would like us to delve deeper into. We will also be opening the conversation inside The Woman Ascending Facebook Group to explore this conversation more deeply.
